Whether we like it or not laundry has to be done. We have to spend money on these things, even though we would all rather spend that hard-earned money on something else. We may be able to save some cash by taking the time making these products ourselves.

Detergent

One thing I have heard from people when telling them they should try making their laundry detergent is that it won’t smell as good. We all have our favorite brand of soap. We buy a brand because we like the scent, it caters to a particular need, or out of habit. Try making your laundry detergent using this easy recipe. Then take your favorite fragrance in essential oils and add it in! This is a great way to save money and get the scent that you want.

Fabric Softener

I have tried to cut out fabric softener when I want to save a little bit of money that month. To me, fabric softener can be more of a luxury. That is before I came across the idea of using white vinegar and essential oils as a replacement. A gallon of vinegar is a lot less expensive than a bottle of fabric softener. Most of us will already have these two things in our homes, might as well give it a shot on the next load of laundry. If you like the result, this would be another great way to save a little money each month.

Dryer Balls

Do you use dryer balls? I never have, but after reading this tutorial on making my own, I am going to have to give it a try. Dryer balls can save on electricity because they help your clothes dry faster. If you skip on the fabric softener, it can also help pick up the slack there. Wool Dryer Balls will save money as well since they are reusable, unlike dryer sheets. If you’re already crafty, you may already have what you need to make these dryer balls. All you will need is some wool yarn.

Clothes Line

Hang dry your clothing and save on your electric bill. It is also easier on your clothes and will make them last longer. If you have a spare bedroom to lay out your clothes or a closet to hang your clothing while they dry would be great. Not all of us can be that lucky. Using a clothesline outside does have the benefit of your clothes drying quicker if it’s a sunny day. If your tight on yard space a retractable laundry line may be a good option. If you have space, a permanent laundry line would look great and could be used for other things.
